SAU 55 On Notice of Transportation Labor Dispute
The Superintendent of Schools has received written notification from the Teamsters Local Union No. 633 that the Union and First Student are in a labor dispute which could result in a potential work stoppage within the next few weeks. It is important to note we have no information that a work stoppage has been approved at this time.
We are hopeful for a resolution; however, out of an abundance of caution, we wish to advise parents as far in advance as possible of the need to plan accordingly so they can secure transportation for their students should the work stoppage go forward. We will keep you informed as best we can, but note that notice of an actual work stoppage order could be very short notice.
Here at Hampstead and Timberlane, we are fortunate to have a number of great bus drivers who are committed to safely transporting our children to and from school each day. We take no position on the labor dispute at hand, but do look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship with individual drivers and First Student, Inc.
Again, we will keep you informed of the situation as necessary.
