Superintendent Establishes an Equity Advisory Committee
In anticipation of the development of goals for the 2017-18 school year, Dr. Metzler has established a new advisory committee for the purpose of making recommendations directly to him relative to the equitable distribution of district resources as it relates to athletics and the arts, advantaged and disadvantaged students, Title IX requirements (equal opportunities for both boys and girls), and any other areas that may be identified.
The committee will be comprised of district principals, directors and the Superintendent’s Leadership Team and will be co-chaired by the Superintendent and School Board member Sue Sherman. The committee will be charged with conducting an audit of the current allocation of resources and identifying areas of imbalance. The committee will also develop and propose solutions for consideration that will be incorporated into the goals for the 2017-18 school year.
“Although we’ve made tremendous progress over the past five years, there is still much work to be done in the support of equity as it relates to the allocation of resources throughout the district. Identifying areas of imbalance will allow us to develop system improvements that will align with our mission to increase the rigor, accountability, evaluation and support necessary to drive student achievement.” – Dr. Metzler
The Superintendent also intends to re-establish and recharge the Athletic Advisory Committee sometime in the spring.
