HISTORY BOOK CLUB – September Book Selection: “The Day The World Came to Town” by Jim Defede
September 13, 2017
On September 11th, thirty eight aircraft carrying passengers and crew totaling 6,595 people descended upon Gander, Newfoundland after the terrorist attack resulted in the closing of the United States airspace. Gander’s population was barely 10,000.
The Day the World Came to Town is a moving account of how the people of Gander and surrounding towns welcomed and sheltered complete strangers and demonstrated selfless and genuine acts of kindness in the midst of terror and tragedy.
