In December we began the post-secondary career and college planning process with our 10th graders. Counselors met with all sophomores in small groups and introduced them to Naviance Succeed, our college and career readiness software program. Students took a Career Interest Survey and were shown how to find colleges that offer programs that match their interests.
This spring we will host additional events to help students and their parents navigate the college planning process
Career Day – We will be hosting our third annual career day on April 7th for all sophomore students. Sophomore students will be able to choose from over 20 careers and meet in small groups with professionals. Students will gain insight into specific careers/jobs as well as understand the educational background and experience required.
Sophomore College Information Night – The Guidance Department is in the process of planning an evening for sophomore students and their parents that will focus on planning for post-secondary education including the college search process, visitations, PSAT’s and SAT’s as well as an overview of the college application process. Counselors will also address what students should be doing in high school to prepare for the most competitive colleges/universities, including course selection and extra curricular activities. Sophomore students and their parents will receive an email notification when the date has been determined.
“College Costs and Funding” – On May 10th, all parents are invited to attend this presentation hosted by New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF). In this session, NHHEAF will share the basics about how financial aid works, college savings options and details about the impact of saving on student eligibility for financial aid. This session will be held in the PAC Recital Hall at 6:30 PM.
